Dohars: a buyer's guide

What a dohar is, the two sizes, and how to wash it.

A cream and green cypress print dohar over a double bed.

What it is

A dohar is a light quilt: three layers of cotton, block printed by hand and quilted with a running stitch. It is lighter than a duvet and cool to sleep under.

Sizes

Single, about 60 by 90 inches (152 by 229 cm). Double, about 90 by 108 inches (229 by 274 cm). Not every print comes in both sizes, and each product page shows the sizes available.

What to expect

Block prints vary a little in register and in ink coverage, and the quilting stitch wanders. None of this is a fault.

Washing

Thirty degrees on a gentle cycle, on its own the first time. Line dry in shade. No tumble dryer. The print softens over the first few washes, and the quilting pulls in a little.
